Compound fireworks

A compound combines several multishot units connected by the manufacturer to fire as one sequence. It is supplied as a complete unit with a designated lighting fuse.

Understand the complete firing sequence

Treat the compound as one complete product. Follow the instructions supplied with it, including setup, distances, firing direction and what to do if it stops.

Choose a product that fits your space

Check the category, spectator distance and any additional clearance needed for angled effects. Read the instructions before buying or deciding where to place it.

Keep the supplied assembly intact

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the outer carton, base and securing arrangements. Do not separate the multishot units, alter the connecting fuses or connect separate fireworks yourself.

Prepare a stable firing position

Place the complete unit on firm, level ground and secure it exactly as instructed. Check the firing direction and keep the space above and around it clear.

Identify the correct lighting fuse

Find the main lighting fuse using the label and instructions. Do not assume a reserve fuse is the starting fuse. Follow the product instructions. Light one firework at a time, at the end of the fuse and at arm's length, using a suitable taper. Never stand or lean over it. Step back immediately.

Stay back during pauses

There may be pauses between the connected sections. A pause does not mean it is safe to approach. Keep everyone away while the sequence continues.

If it stops unexpectedly

If a firework fails to light, or stops unexpectedly, keep everyone away from the firework and do not attempt to relight it, unless the manufacturer’s instructions specifically describe using a supplied reserve fuse. Follow that procedure exactly. If unsure, leave the firework and contact the retailer. Use a supplied reserve fuse only if the manufacturer’s instructions permit it. Wait at least 15 minutes and any longer time stated on the label, then follow the full procedure. Never relight the original fuse or attempt a repair. If there is no permitted reserve-fuse procedure, keep everyone away and contact the retailer the following morning.
