Learn about consumer fireworks

Understand the different firework types, recognise the information on the label and learn how to make safer choices.

Get to know the label

Buy from a licensed retailer and check for the CE or UKCA mark. Products that look similar can need different setups and distances. Read and follow the instructions supplied with each firework.

Find the category

F1 fireworks present a very low hazard, but are not automatically suitable indoors. F2 fireworks are for outdoor use in confined areas; F3 fireworks need large open outdoor areas. The category helps you choose for your space, but the specific product instructions determine its setup and safety distances.

Check the distance

Choose products that fit your space: F2 requires at least 8m (although some manufacturers recommend more, so check the label); F3 requires at least 25m. Safety distances are important, so follow them.
