Safe lighting sequence

Prepare first, light once, step back

Follow the label, keep control of the firing area, and avoid the common actions that increase risk.

Before you light

Read the label in daylight, choose firm level ground, clear the area, and keep water nearby.

How to light safely

Use a taper, keep your body away from the firework, and light at arm's length.

Step back immediately

Move back to the recommended distance as soon as the fuse is lit.

Never return to a lit firework

If it does not fire, leave it alone. A delayed ignition can still happen.

Common mistakes

Avoid leaning over fireworks, relighting fuses, holding fireworks, or setting them on unstable surfaces.
